The Sports and Livelihood for Deaf Empowerment Project (SLIDE) is a dynamic initiative designed to empower Deaf young women through sports and livelihood training. Implemented by Action Network for the Disabled (ANDY) in partnership with Laureus Sports for Good, the project focuses on enhancing the skills and opportunities for Deaf young women aged 24-35 years in Kibera, Nairobi, Kenya.
Our mission is to leverage the power of sports, specifically football, combined with digital and entrepreneurial training, to foster personal and professional growth among Deaf young women. By providing a supportive and inclusive environment, we aim to equip them with the skills needed to succeed in both sports and their careers.
The SLIDE project specifically targets Deaf young women aged 24-35 years living in Kibera, Nairobi. Our goal is to create meaningful opportunities for these women, enabling them to lead empowered and independent lives.
We conduct regular football training sessions to promote physical fitness, teamwork, and leadership among the participants. These sessions not only enhance their sports skills but also build confidence and social connections.
Our digital and entrepreneurship training programs are designed to equip the participants with essential skills for the modern job market. This includes training in digital literacy, business development, and entrepreneurial skills, empowering them to pursue various career paths or start their own businesses.
We organise football tournaments to provide a platform for the participants to showcase their skills and compete in a supportive environment. These tournaments foster a sense of achievement and community among the participants.
At the end of the project cycle, we hold a graduation ceremony to celebrate the achievements and progress of the participants. This event marks the culmination of their hard work and dedication, recognizing their growth and readiness to take on new challenges.
The SLIDE project is committed to creating a positive impact in the lives of Deaf young women by providing them with the tools and opportunities needed to succeed. Through a combination of sports and livelihood training, we strive to empower these women to achieve their full potential and lead fulfilling lives.
