Action Network for the Disabled (ANDY) is a Kenyan NGO formed by and for young people with disabilities. ANDY is dedicated to achieving equality, inclusion and empowerment of youth with disability in Kenya, unfortunately far from common in Kenyan society. ANDY advocate for equal opportunities for youth with disabilities, through promoting proactive social and economic participation and to involve youth with disabilities in development and decision-making processes.
Currently, ANDY is running an ‘Inclusive Sports Project for Children with Disabilities’. This is a project that provides sporting opportunities for Children with Disabilities alongside their counterparts ( non-disabled Children) in a learning environment meant to inspire confidence and skills development in the young minds. The project is based in Nairobi County targeting five different schools.
ANDY is offering an exciting and challenging opportunity for a self motivated and enthusiastic individual well acquainted with sports for children/people with disabilities.
You will train Sports teachers (without disabilities) on inclusive sports and techniques as well as ANDY coaches with disabilities.
You will offer knowledge and skills on the handling of children with disabilities during sporting activities. You should be a versatile, creative, outgoing, multicultural and time conscious individual
- You will have a proven track record of delivering successful community projects and the ability to inspire, motivate, encourage, coach, and communicate with persons with disabilities.
- You will have an in-depth knowledge of the barriers that hinder persons with disabilities from taking part in sporting activities and be able to work with ANDY to overcome these and engage people in positive sport and physical activity opportunities.
- A diploma in community development/sociology/ or relevant humanities/social sciences.
- Over 2 years experience working with persons with disabilities in sports or in knowledge of inclusive sports techniques.
